I lost my good gloves on the busOn Monday the guy gave me a free pass. On Tuesday, December 16, 2008 I lost a really good pair of gloves on the bus.I was running late that day and didn’t get to Rural and Broadway till 8 or 8:15 am and caught the 72 bus driven by the Navajo guy. I was really feeling krappy and I wanted to sleep but decided to talk to the driver just to be nice. I remember mentioning that the Navajo language has 10 tones compared to 4 or 8 that the two version of Chinese language use. Anyhow when I got off the bus I forgot my gloves. I didn’t realize I had lost my gloves till I rode my bike a mile to Dobson and Frye Road, and when I figured out I didn’t have them I was angry. Did I leave them on the bus or did I take them off the bus and leave them at the bus stop? I didn’t know. I figured if I left them on the bus, the Navajo bus driver would save them for me, or at least turn them into the lost and found. I never even suspected that the Navajo guy might steal them. I figured if I left them at the bus stop they were stolen by now. The gloves were really good gloves. The last pair of gloves I had like them cost me $25, but these gloves were really good gloves and cost me a measly $6 at Bass Pro Shop. I tried to catch the same bus several times so I could ask the driver if he found my gloves, but never did. I didn’t call Valley Metro till Thursday to find out if the gloves had been turned in. The lady there said no gloves were found. I told here that since the driver knew me he might be keeping them for me. How naive I was. She said that was against rules, but didn’t care as long as I got the gloves back. I found out what happened to my glovesOn Tuesday, December 23, 2008 I was running late and caught the 72 bus at Broadway and Rural at about 8 or 8:15 am.The driver was the Navajo Indian guy who was driving the bus when I lost my gloves. I didn’t bring up the subject of my gloves even though I had been thinking about the gloves since I lost them and really wanted them back. The driver asked me if I left my nice pair of gloves on his bus last week. I told him yes I did. He told me that he waited around for me to come back and when I never showed up he gave them to another driver and told that driver to give me the gloves if I showed up. I then asked him if he could get the gloves back to me. The driver told me they were almost certainly gone or something like that. I kind of wanted to ask the driver if the driver he gave the gloves to stole them, or if the driver himself stole my gloves. But I guess asking people if they stole your stuff is politically incorrect. The driver didn’t obey the Valley Metro rules. According to Valley Metro rules he should have turned my gloves in to the Valley Metro lost and found. Instead the driver claimed to have given the gloves to some other driver, which resulted in the gloves being stolen or lost. The Valley Metro buses have cameras which record all the audio and video on the bus so if I can get the tapes from Valley Metro we should have little doubt that the driver admitted finding my gloves and instead of turning them into lost and found giving them to the next driver. I should sue Valley Metro over this because the driver screwed up and lost my gloves. On the other hand the way the driver could have stolen my gloves and made up the stuff about giving them to the next bus driver. I will never know. But at this point in time I was pretty angry because it was clear that I would never see my gloves which keep me warm in the morning. They were either lost by a driver who didn’t obey Valley Metro rules, or stolen by a driver who pretends to be my friend. |
